Unhappy Breaker plate screws - hard to remove on my 1978 FXE

I want to adjust the timing on my 1978 Harley FXE. When i tried unscrewing the breaker plate screws (at 9:00 and 3:00 oclock positions), i couldn't get them to move... These screws (or bolts) have a thread within them for the timer cover screws, and a flathead screwdriver indent at the top for their removal. Problem is, they're so tight, they won't move and the screwdriver notch is already starting to strip. Anyone ever encounter this issue? Is there a special tool or approach i can use to remove these screws so I can adjust the breaker plate?

Help!?

You could try a hand held impact with the flat screwdriver blade bit.
Squirt WD-40 or other penetrant type oil in the slots to get it in the threads of the hold down screws and let it soak in for a while.

be carfull with that the screw thread is 8 / 32 on the other end of the slotted post you are trying to turn

i would get a brass drift and give the post a knock dont hit it too hard just give it a shock --- than a very small vice grips you can snap them on the post BUT only turn it ever so small a turn than go the other way ever so small a turn maybe 20 thousands of an inch back and forth when it feels free add some movement but not before --

like the post above add WD 40 into the mix a few times they suck when they break and they do very easy -- take your time -- jz

PB Blaster is a great solvent for these types of tight threads.
