After a complete motor and tranny rebuild and having the heads ported and all.Rebuilt the carb but the plugs would foul shortly from running lean.Replaced the accelerator pump twice with junk parts but today the correct pump arrived.Forget the Taiwan leather pumps as they are junk. Also installed an adjustable main jet on this carb.It would run fine up until 70 mph and then stumble..Had to rework the tab on the float for the needle to seat as it would not open correctly as a result starveing for fuel at higher speed..Happy to report all is well Today, dont know what tomorrow will bring..
in my experence the shovel port / my guess your talking about a shovel - is already too big to maintain good mid range torque 35 to 50 in top gear - what we do is install a turbolator into the intake - the vortex pickes up intake air / fuel "speed " and balances the fuel mixture to get a better plug burn, if you should find the plugs not looking right you might want to invest in this cheap but worthy fix, just my take -- jz
By placing a magically shaped piece of metal in the intake system of your car's engine, you can use the powerful force of a tornado to improve your fuel mileage.
Sorry but wrong again.
These devices simply create an extra choking effect in your vehicle's air intake system and that's been proven to actually *reduce* fuel efficiency, sometimes quite dramatically.
The fact is that the mix of air and fuel entering your car's engine is already extremely turbulent by the time it is ignited. Trying to add extra turbulence achieves absolutely nothing except making it harder for your engine to breathe.
And yes, scientific tests have proven that they simply don't work.
These intake turbulators are marketed under many names but perhaps the most well-known (and reviled) is the Tornado.
More stuff to avoid!
BIH -- and you know this HOW - your answers to a post is to bloviate ( To discourse at length in a pompous or boastful manner ) and all for nothing as i see it you dont know what your talking about
i used a turbulater in our 1998 National championship road racing Buell S 1 Lightning / we took the number one Plate with and put buell in the trailer at Mid ohio in 1998 159.7 on that straigtaway - i am not interested in some story about what you have done i dont care did i say i dont care -
i used that fake thing 100s of times on dyno runs and it takes HP out YEP it does - BUT it adds the speed of torque plotted in time at engagment on the dyno < special equiptment / something you know nothing about - ( corner SPEED IN to corner SPEED OUT - using the intake and exhaust track tunings negitave wave ) --- read up before you discount, if you can have that conversation i will be gald to inform you - jz

"ROTFLMMFAO!!!!
Dunno man I ran one of those things for years with the old S&S B , had the accelerator pump bowl too . Somebody had done a backyard port job on the heads before I got them and the turbulator helped big big time with some mid range issues , poking her out 88" helped even more .
The one I don't recommend and I haven't seen one in years was the micro mesh screen deal that jammed up into the manifold that was a waste .
Just for fun, check the petcock screen and valve to make sure something's not blocking the gas flow. Take a look at your gas caps too. That little BB in there needs to rattle. Might not be the problem but you never know.
I'm still running the stock Bendix carb with no issues. Scoots down the road at 70 no problem. Of couse, that's with a stock top end too.
