I googled it and got this, plus I know that on newer engines they are saying about .006 max. I wonder if using the impact to loosen the compensator nut shook the crank out of spec.? I will never know because I did not check the pinion first. Kind of doubt it though, being that far out one would think that stuff would be chewed up but it is not.
AI lies. Have you measured the I.D. of the pinion bushing in the cover? If it is in spec then I'd think things would be OK, but that is just my opinion.
I did not measure the bushing diameter but I can see that about 1/3rd of the pinion has a hot spot on it from running off center. The cam cover has damage on the gasket surface (I bought a puller) so that will be replaced. Too bad about this pinion issue because the rod bearings feel like there is not any play.
Cylinders are .010" over now and look pretty good so they will clean up with another .010" I think. If I can get away without over sizing them I will. I had all the precision tools to do this job but sold almost all of them when I retired. I do know that AI in not accurate, but it only knows what it knows. Imagine that running your life lol At least when I am done I will know what I have.
You will need a tool to press the bearing on when every thing is setup.

About 95% of the time you can heat the bearing and it drops in place, stack the spacer & comp parts to fake the tool to insure it's seated fully after cool down.
Needs must and all that when chiss happens and a shop isn't available.
Finished the wiring. The factory wiring diagram shows the charging system going directly to the battery, I wonder if I should put a 30 amp fuse in the single wire that goes to the battery ?
Checking the fitment, engine sits flat in the frame and will not need shim. Right rear post mount for the transmission plate needs .022" of shim to take out the rocking from corner to corner and bring it into perfect squareness with the inner primary. Engine cases have been stripped and are ready for paint and assembly. I bought bottoming taps and all holes are threaded to the bottom so I can use the longest bolts I can.
