Finished the wiring. The factory wiring diagram shows the charging system going directly to the battery, I wonder if I should put a 30 amp fuse in the single wire that goes to the battery ?
I would just put it on the 30a main circuit breaker that you should have on the battery positive.
Checking the fitment, engine sits flat in the frame and will not need shim. Right rear post mount for the transmission plate needs .022" of shim to take out the rocking from corner to corner and bring it into perfect squareness with the inner primary. Engine cases have been stripped and are ready for paint and assembly. I bought bottoming taps and all holes are threaded to the bottom so I can use the longest bolts I can.
Nope, one of big the reasons they vibrated so much, and had constant problems with the seal ring on motors and inner primaries cracking. The later years stamped steel trans mount plate allowed a lot of flexing and distortion also.
Found this OEM polished 9 hole cover that are hard to come by. Thinking I will shine it up and run this instead of the black. The one I have is after market and it is warped, but it draws down and black is correct for a '81 FXS. I always liked the polished aluminum on the '71 FX that I had.
