Biketronics 7.1s and 2180 Rock!
The upgrade I ended up doing to my Limited was the fairingspeakers with a two channel amp. I hadplanned on four speakers BT in front, polk in back, and a RF PBR 4 channel. During the course of talking to Bill at BTand ordering the speakers I decided go ahead and get his amp. Hes agood guy, technical and not really a salesman, or hes a good one and I didntrealize it. Anyway, I am very happy withit. It took a lot longer than I thoughtit would. I had a lot of trouble makingit fit and I still have enough of a gap on the right edge of the fairing toslip a piece of paper into. I will takeit back off and see why later. I torquedthe screws to about 28in-lbs so its not because anything is loose. I used two layers of the thin WM polyfilformed around the speakers and not attached with anything. It stays in place well. My Booms are still in the back running offthe HD HU, they were barely noticeable sitting still so I ended up with thefader all the way to the front to eliminate them altogether. I rode about 150 miles afterwards on I 85between 70 and 85 mph and then some country roads taking it easy. They sound great. I listened to them so loud for so long I gota slight headache. Im gonna have tolearn some self control with this thing. I checked the positive lead a few times, never even got warm. However, I am fairly certain my heated gripsare not as warm as they were. I have thechrome and rubber ones and before on a day like today with no gloves #1 settingwas great, today I turned them up to #2. Is it possible the amp drawing some current could affect the grips?
I know Ill want todo the rear pods later. I am wonderingif a PBR 300 x 2 would work well mounted in the tour pak with some 4 ohm Polks? Also if its ok to do that, 2180 in front andRF in the back?
Thanks to you guys for all the advice and expertise. I really appreciate it! No offense intended to anyone with Boom, they're better than stock but now I know why so many on the forum says Boom sux .
Other than that, I'm glad you like the BT stuff. A lot of people are happy with them.
I was on a self imposed budget is why I got the two channel. Not one of my better decision's when you consider the work involved and the difference in cost. I had the RF on my mind because of wanting the best value which I still believe it may be, and would like to find out, without being able to adjust gains on the 2180 I still have doubts as to which one may provide the best performance. Getting the 2180 just happened, I asked you guys all the right questions, got all the right answers, then I enjoyed talking to Bill and was giving him my card info and just said "throw in an amp too". So I was thinking later get the RF and put it in the back, if it turns out better or the same get another for the front and sell the 2180. Its not that I can't afford to get what I want its more about having spent so much money on everything I see for a bike I get to a point where I get tired of spending money on them because I know how much I'm going to lose when I trade. I always get to the point, even with chrome, that I wonder if I've gone too far and stop. Its a good thing I put a lot of miles on one before I trade for a new bike. The thing I can say though is I take good care of a bike, heated and AC controlled and a dehumidifier in the room for it, keep them immaculate, and when I trade they still look new, just have a lot of miles so somebody gets a great bike for a steal just because it has 80k miles on it. Have you figured out I am longwinded too?
The 4180 is $200 more than a 2180. The RF 300x2 is about $150. Add in more materials for the install and the bracket from Hogtunes to have both amps in the fairing and you just saved money by getting the bigger amp you're going to need later on. Not to mention the time you will spend installing the second amp.

Over the top, imo, would still allow you to have full use of your tour pak and saddlebags while allowing the tour pak to be quick detach.
You guys are just plain, well, nutz.
