Default Bassani RR2 & FP3 problems

Hi everyone

I'm hoping someone here can help shed some light on a problem I'm having.

I have a 2015 FXDB w/FP3, Bassani Road Rage 2, and VO2 air cleaner.

After installing the RR2, and calling V&H (selecting Pro Pipe per instructions) my gas mileage went from about 200 miles per tank to about 100! It had a very rough idle and just never really seemed to smooth out. I tried Autotune, but it never seemed to fix anything other than the decel popping (rode it to work and back...108 miles, including freeway and city).

V&H techs says the O2 bungs don't go all the way in the pipe to get a proper reading due to the adapters used by Bassani and to disconnect them (unplug the sensoes, after selecting The Pro -Pipe, competition series).

This causes the check engine light to come on and not go away (even after clearing it from the app and having a V&H tech upload a new "map" to supposedly fix it. It didnt. They then said to just drive it like that or get an XIED. ??? Another $100? No clue,as to what an XIED is but I'm not liking the last 3 letters....

Some shops around here (Phoenix) say they have never heard of such a fix (to disconnect O2 sensors)and that the FP3 should fix it, I've spoken to 3 HD dealerships and 3 indi shops.

I called Bassani and they laughed. The tech I spoke with V&H is the competition and disconnecting the O2 sensors is hogwash. They said they DO NOT recommend the FP3 with their pipes....to either just get a base dynotune, or use a Power Commander (although they REALLY recommend Thundermax).

What the hell? Anyone else have similar issues? Any advice. My bike is my life (and my daily commuter). I don't really care about the gas mileage as I realize that economy suffers for performance...however, I think it should run a bit more smooth than it does.

Thanks for your advice.

Mace

Default No Issues Here

Man, this sounds like people are giving you the runaround!

My first question, besides the exhaust, FP3, and AC, is the motor a stock 103? If so, your problems may be with that Road Rage B1 pipe. The pipe you have is for big inch / high HP motors, so that could defiantly be a problem.

I have a Road Rage, FP3, Ness Big Sucker (same element as your VO2) and started with the Pro Pipe tune on my 2015 FXDB. I ran this tune as-is for about 25 miles, and found no real issues besides some decel popping, so I then moved on to the Auto Tune process. My Auto Tune sessions seemed to take longer than V&H quoted on their site, but I still managed to fine tune my system. My bike was a little rough between 2200- 2700 rpm while stock, but the stage 1, and FP3 smoothed that right out. I still have some decel pop, but no roughness, or bad MPG like you describe. Actually, I don't think I noticed much of a MPG change... I still get between 165 - 195 out of a tank, depending on the riding, and roads.

Anyway... Defiantly look into that pipe. That pipe may actually have too much flow for your setup... Then again, I am not an expert... Just a word of caution!

im running a road rage II, crossbones AC w/K&N filter and a FP3.. still getting from 185 to 200 per tank mixed and over 200 easy on highway of course if you are wide open throttle everywhere you go this will vary also..

occasionally as owners have found the FP3 will glitch on flashing.. if you haven't already I would do a reflash and see what happens then

Yeah, forgot to mention, I did the reflash two times. It definitely ran better after the Autotune, but not 100%...I'm bummed.

I would PM Chris Neely who is the project manager for the FP3. He is on these forums as vcneely I believe. Great guy, and has helped me out a ton .

Good luck!!

@McCoy- Everything that tech's told you is correct. This is not the first time that we have experienced runability issues with exhaust systems that do not have the O2 sensors properly placed. Both the alternatives that were suggested to you eliminate your stock O2 sensors. Yes, PC does this, however, PV will not. PC does this because the ADV's have a lot more power than you think and can skew the O2 readings to the point of effecting your rideability. The PC is pulse width interceptor and modifier unlike the PV. This is why they would recommend that. Other exhaust manufacturers have not changed their O2 sensor placement from the J1850 bikes because the cost of tooling revisions. This why they just include adapters and say your good. We are still the only brand that used the "Super Bung" technology. We understood that O2 placement from 2007 would not work on 2016 bikes. Exhaust technology must advance like the tuning technology on the bike. This is the advantage we have by manufacturing the exhaust, air cleaners and fuel management.

Now, some individuals have not had issues with the same exhaust and setup. However, each rider's expectations/experiences are different. We can definitely accommodate your setup. It may take some more information on your part as to what issues you are having other than just poor MPG. AutoTune may still be used with your current O2 placement, but may take longer. It is something that we will need to watch closely as you acquire data. You stated that you did AutoTune for 108 miles, but that may not have been enough. That is why I would have liked to see the AutoTune grid population before making conclusions. You can also upload that map and we could have seen the changes that AutoTune had did and if it was doing the proper changes to your map.

We are also currently working on a way for riders to eliminate O2 sensors without having a check engine and not having something physically plugging into the harness either. With a little patience and feedback, we can get you tuned in right. Send me an email to cneely@vanceandhines.com and we will start with uploading your current map and see what AutoTune did to your VE tables.

Got to like that quick response from a Vance & Hines Rep
My V&H FP3 with V&H Straight Shot Slipons, plus the Stage 1 Air Flow kit gave my 2014 Dyna FXDC the sound and power I was looking for
