My EVL-3020 is very quiet. Pretty good giddy-up as well.

Both are great drop in cams. EV27 has been a favorite for H-D Evo. Another good Andrews cam is the EV13 for low end torque if you don't ride higher than 4000rpms and is a favorite in baggers. The Vthunder is great. Again, very personal choice in what you need for your riding.

I would HIGHLY recommend EZ adjustable PRs. Makes the job much easier. Good choice on lifters. Change out your cam cover oil seal while you are there. Borrow the blind hole puller from Autozone for the cam bearing. You'll probably need a cam shim. Get .055 or .060 and you will be right there.

When I changed out my stock cam for the EV 27 I didn't put in a cam shim (other than what was already there).
At the time I wasn't worried about it as the book says tolerance is 50 thou.
I was new to Harleys at the time.
When I went back to increase compression and have the heads flowed I checked end play on the cam and it was only 18 thousandths.
Since it had been that way for 35k at the time I didn't see a big need to get it lower than 15 thou (Andrews spec) and it's been fine.

Texashillcountry,

You are correct. Some Evo had just the thrust washer like mine, and some had washer and shim. Couldn't remember the years differences.

Harley does give way loose tolerance for it. 8 to 15 thousand is probably best. You definitely don't want to be tight.

On my 1989 FLHTC, I put in a .055 shim, and it cam out to be 12 thousand. It's working fine. This is for Andrews cams. You would have to check others.

One other thing to consider is cam and pinion gear lash. Lucky for me, I didn't need a new pinion gear.

Cant speak for the EV-27 but I do love my V Thunder 3010. If you like a nice 2nd and 3rd gear, I highly recommend it. Its a punchy cam even riding 2-up.

Dave,
The reason I'm keeping the stock pushrods is my rocker boxes need polishing BADLY and need to come off. Also, the non adjustables are a no brainer. I've heard of adjustables stables coming loose.
