After riding both areas more than once; they both win but I prefer the west because it's easier to avoid urban areas entirely. I don't like cities and you can ride out west for literally thousands of miles without a major urban encounter. I was born and raised in an urban environment and escaped years ago, never to return...

My first days ride on my trip to the SW this summer is 367 miles, one blinking red light and 2 stop signs in 367 miles. I stop for gas and to pee, not for traffic.

Yeah i avoid cities and such where i live. Mainly just ride the countryside. What sucks in the Northeast is the Interstates. Pot holes everywhere, construction , truck drivers on meth and no sleep, and teens texting while driving. Its a freakin death trap!!

Riding back east is on my bucket list...and will do someday. From all the pics and reports I have seen, it's a must for me.

With that said, I'm in Cali. One can spend a lifetime trying to ride all the nooks and crannies of this state. You may not like the people, the culture, the cost, the policies...but if your a motorcyclist, it's a hard state to beat.

I love the Black hills. Also Yellowstone, and most of the national parks are awesome.. Our next ride to close out the lower 48 is the PCH.. Can't wait.

The west coast is on my bucket list to see....haven't done it yet.

But just so you've covered what I consider the best scenery on the east coast....have you ridden through "The Presidentials" up north of Jackson New Hampshire? Also known as Mt Washington Valley.

A lot of people are familiar with riding "The Kank"...the Kancamangus Highway..which is a little south of this area, by Conway. But..IMO..go north of Conway, north of Jackson...starting around Bartlett and north of there...that's where the real beauty is for me.

I often stay in Bartlett....and IMO....it's some of the most jaw dropping beauty on the whole east coast. Get away from the crowds, head out on more quiet areas, Rt 16, Rt 2, Rt 302, there area Rt 93 goes through Franconia Notch, where Old Man of the Mountain used to be before it slid down. Crawford Notch is gorgeous too. And of course...go up the top of Mt Washington...for me, this view is tough to beat. You're looking down at the clouds.

No question that east mountain range has beautiful roads an I gave rode many of them but it is a dream or bucket list ride for me to do the Rockies and PCH 1 and redwoods....North America has so much beauty to offer. We are blessed with a beautiful earth.
