I do as often as I can. My job requires me to deliver computers, or have my tool bag and cable for making CAT5e cables etc. So I have to plan it according to my work day.
I'm not talking about the once a week or even twice a week guy or gal. I was curious to see how many really ride their bikes and use them every day. I thought I rode a lot until one of my co-workers with a 2013 Heritage recently turned over 140k on that bike.
HOLY CRAP! I have used both my bike and a vehicle for years, but most of my commuting is on my Harley. I was curious to see who else rides to work and uses the bike for more than a weekend toy or garage jewelry.
No judgement on my part, either way I am just curious. It seems I am in a minority here in Houston.
Being retired I don't even like to type the word "work" anymore. But I do ride daily. Probably am averaging 8,000 to 10,000 per year doing daily errands and weekly longer rides.
Your guy with 140,000 miles in less than 4 years has to be averaging well over 100 miles a day seven days a week. That is a lot!
I don't ride to work, but I used to go to work so I could ride - and I still do, though ordinary nowadays I work for free - mostly on scooters and the diggins. It seems like a silly thing to ride so one can work - but it takes a range of people to make a world. Each to his own...
I ride to work as much as possible. Probably put 80 miles a week or so on during the summer just back and forth to work. Weather/passenger/cargo permitting, I ride as much as I can, wherever I can. My bike is by far the nicest vehicle I own.
I ride unless its close to freezing, with all the rain its gets slick at that point.
Had to smile at "I ride to work unless its raining" the worst year since we moved to WA it rained all but a couple weeks.
That was a rough year, as for distance I am close to work 6.5 miles one way 7 the other. But I work with guys that drive close to 100 miles a day, every day.
I used to work with a older guy (I laugh at that now, he was the same age I am now) anyhow he rode a wing 12 months a year rain or shine and averaged over 80 miles a day. Only seen him with out a bike for one week.
That was back in the early 90's when this area got close to 3' of snow.
His bike was stuck in the parking lot for almost a week (till the roads were clear enough to get it home). My truck is for moving stuff and collecting dust.
The new 09 has lowers which will be nice riding to work in the rain (I will have dry feet/shoes for the most part).
Everyday. Limits are under 40 (about a week a year), over 110 (this year is awful, a lot of over 110 days.) If it is actually raining (about 1 day a year :-)). Otherwise 43 miles a day round trip.
