Default FXDL 2 into 2 exhaust

Just purchased a 2014 Dyna Low Rider after a 20 year riding famine. Love the bike, but the stock exhaust is a little subdued. I'm looking for recommendations on a 2 into 2 system that will provide a deeper sound but won't alienate my neighbors. It's been suggested that what I really need is a slip-on, or 2 into 1 that will give me the deep sound without the additional volume, but everything I've seen seems to be really long, or "non-traditional"

I really like the V&H Big Shots but my Harley dealer tells me they won't fit my bike. They don't say why, only that it's not listed as a fit in their catalogue. I'm wondering if its because of the forward-mid control setup. He recommended Rinehart 2 into 2 pipes. I like these too, though I'd prefer the staggered look of the Big Shots (no one seems to completely certain the Rineharts will fit either)

I've attached some photos below. first is my bike. Second and third are images of the bikes from websites selling the exhaust. I realize these are not low riders, so there may indeed be differences. I include them or illustrative purposes.

Does anyone have any experience with either of these systems, and know whether they will fit my forward-mid Low Rider, or have a recommendation for something else that would fit the bill? I'm also interested to hear people's take on the volume of the exhaust compared to stock.

Thanks.

I always liked the classic look of the of the Big Shots too and have them on my 09,, I did a little looking and it seems the "non-fit" issue has to do with the position of the O2 sensors on the 2012> models. Go to the V&H site, punch in your bike and take a look, they say this about the Shortshots;
For 2012, Vance & Hines has designed a new flat plane mounting panel for the 12mm oxygen sensors now employed across the Dyna model line, which positions the sensor deeper into the exhaust stream, providing enhanced data feedback to the ECM.
BigShots are freaking loud, I'm running 12"baffles + a set of Thunder Torque Inserts (lolly pops) just to calm it down a bit.
I've gone Stage 1 using a canned tune Power Commander 5 and have by-passed the O2's,, I'm happy with the tune and performance.
Dealers can't recommend a part or upgrade that doesn't meet EPA standards so getting info from them can be tough,, see if you can find a Harley independent mechanic in your area

You will get a better performing bike staying with a 2-into-1 exhaust. I have been running the Screamin' Eagle Nightstick slip-on with 5 disks and an open end cap. Polite at lights but has a nice low growl when giving it the go juice.

For a full exhaust replacement about the only unit I would consider in the Cobra Chrome PowerPro HP 2-into-1 RPT Exhaust System. I run the XL version on my 1200C. Love it!!!!! Short can and has really good ground clearance.

I ran a set of slash cut slip ons for a while. They sucked. There was a tremendous loss of torque. I finally bit the bullet and purchased a bassani road rage. I got the torque back and some. The bassani is loud, but only when you hammer the throttle. At ldle or low RPM, its not annoyingly loud.

One of the things I liked about the Low Rider is the 2-1 exhaust - and the fact that it curves around the cam case. Upgrading to a full exhaust is not in the budget right now but I did ditch the factory muffler for a Firebrand loose cannon slip-on.

I'm telling you, this thing is great! The sound is a low and deep rumble with some mild bark on acceleration. Noticeably louder than stock but not exceeding that threshold of annoyance. I have a an FP3 and a DK 587 AC and it works great with this combination.

I don't see spending $900 on a full exhaust system at this point. If I were going beyond stage 1 maybe - but not for the riding I do now.

V&H big shots will most certainly fit on your low rider. I had them on a 2015 low rider, which is identical to your 2014

That is a good looking pipe. Never seen one. The only Cobras I remember were bulky super-cruiser looking things.

EDIT, I have not seen anybody run one of these, looks like a nice pipe!

I can live with a 2 into 1, especially if a 2 into 2 is going to affect performance. I've listened to the Nightstick and it sounds good, and loud enough really.

Not the look I'm going for (I'd like something a little shorter) but given the price, and the seemingly limited number of options, it might be a safe choice.

Appreciate your feedback.

Todd, something like our Legacy Gen-X may be a good option for you. They're about the same length as the long shots, and give you a nice deep sound that's a step louder than stock so it wont get overbearing on long rides!
