I've screwed the pooch this time. Broke the frame mounted kickstand tab. Help!
I went over a curb that I underestimated a broke off the nipple on the frame mounted kickstand tab
I knew I was screwed from the onset. After doing some research I read where a couple of people tapped the remainder of the post and threaded a screw while using red loctite to secure it.
Other than welding a screw head onto the tab, does anyone have any other suggestions?
Also if I were to tap and thread a screw into it, does anyone know what size to use?
Full disclosure, I've never used a tap and die before. That said, I'm decent with tools. I would grind what's left of the tab flat before drilled the hole and tapped it. Again, I'm a complete novice with that.
What drill bit would I use? Should I center punch before I drill? Will red loctite work? Is JB Weld something I should use after the screw is inserted with the red loctite?
Grind it flat. Use a center punch. I'd use a screw about half the diameter of the space your working with or a little smaller. Tapping is easy. Take your time. Once it's started and really cutting I go half turn forward quarter turn back. Loctite is a given.
I believe its either J&P or DK cycles that offers a kickstand retainer.... not sure exactly what its called....but it hooks to your stand and swings up to lock onto the frame when riding.
Just a thought for a quick fix (shipping time) if you were looking for something like that.

Sorry I didn't get back to you in time. I'm glad you found it though. Hopefully that will get you back on the road until you get a more permanent solution.
