I was curious what black ice would be like. I hope I never hit it. Yea with the salt, I'm surprisingly not seein any on the bike. I still wash and wax everything on it every other day

Black ice is practically invisible, and like riding on ball bearings. Odds of staying up on it are nearly 0%. Be safe, and be careful.

We haven't had much precip either so we have been able to ride even with the cold weather as well. After that ice storm this week there may be some sand or salt out there so be careful. It is staying warm here for a couple of weeks so we may be able to ride again later this week. The sand can be as dangerous as the ice though.

Yea we don't get sand in Michigan (at least not where I am) so far this year I haven't seen any salt accumulated on the roads. I try to watch for ice/salt/road debris the best I can but you guys know how difficult that is.

20F is my lower limit. That is with dry roads.
I have heated gloves and jacket liner and wear BOG neoprene boots. I have heated boot soles but since I got the neoprene boots, my feet have been okay. Heavy fleece face mask and modular helmet. I LOVE heated gear. Even at 42F and rain, I am warm and aware.

Other factor is road conditions. Fortunately, here in the Western side of Washington, it is either mid 40's and raining or below 30 and dry. Main roads, arterials get enough traffic to dry roads. Secondary roads can be scary. Washington state uses gallons of liquid deicer. Horrible stuff and is slippery itself. But a day or two after a snow, most roads are okay close to Seattle/Puget Sound. In the foothills, ie Snoqualmie Valley, SR 9, Marine View Drive and connectors, things can always be dicey here and there. Just be on your watch and stay vertical and constant power when crossing potentially dangerous roads.

But with heated gear, I am still comfortable at 20F and above. Just no interest to see how low I could go. If it is in the teens for me, I'll use the truck.

Added: Last week, not far from my office, I was in a lane waiting for a light when a softtail came down the main arterial and swept into a right hand turn. His wheels just slid out. He dumped it. I started to put my stand down, but he jumped up, swore an oath heard a mile away, picked up the bike and jumped on it and rode past me. I took it extra careful as I made my left hand turn right over the spot he went down. Spot was obvious. The hole between the normal car tire routes was still icy. He was in a hurry and swung too wide. Moral...When below 34F, every turn is a potential slip and ride conservatively.

the heated grips on a Limited make 30 bearable. 50 was "enjoyable" before heated grips. with heated grips, I rode above 30 all the time, and SC don't get much below 30

Too cold to ride? It feels pretty balmy here in Philly right now. I just got back last night from five days in Jackson Hole... DEFINITELY too cold to ride! It rarely hit zero the whole time, and one morning it was 22 below!

Although, treads worked pretty well...
