I would probably ask the repair shop to put a fuel cap retainer on the new zipper pull while I had it done. That would solve an age old problem in one fell stroke.
Any dry cleaners with a tailor should be able to fix it. They'll replace the zipper pull.
There are online videos if you want to tackle this simple project yourself.

I had the same thing happen to my Harley Davidson leather jacket last year.
I returned to the dealer I purchased it from and was surprised to fined out it was under warranty for 5 years. I let them send the jacket out to be repaired.
Got it back about three weeks later with a new pull. No cost to me!

3 weeks for a $0.60 zipper pull? I would have just bit the bullet.
