I've cussed at two different connectors. One uses two side-mounted locking tabs that have to be depressed at the same time. I made a tool for that. Another was so small that I couldn't get a pin in at the right angle to catch the locking pawl. Much frustration and holding of the tongue just so was the key.
I like Deutsch connectors. Simple to work with and durable.

It's easier to disengage the lock tab with a pointed edge (sewing needle) as opposed to a flat edge (paper clip). I wouldn't even try it with anything with a flat edge. That's just me though.
