Often the second bike is one you just can't let go of. The 96 FB is one of those for us.
Lot of reason for two Harleys. Long as it don't take food off the table no sin in it.

Her joy of riding makes the other bike priceless.

I'll agree on the sidecar. Been tempted to sell 4 bikes to put a down payment on a good sidecar for the Tour Glide. Would like a Liberty, costs more than my TG and 1200C did combined (used). Meanwhile, I just have to make do with this. Grandkids are thrilled with any kind of sidecar rig, and my grandson was too small at 5 to reach the pegs on any of my two wheelers. And it lets me get out in snowstorms, love riding in heavy snowstorms, never did that before the sidecar rig. Sidecars are a good reason to have more than one bike, too, wouldn't want to ride something this slow and clumsy all the time. Harley hack would have way more power, but would still be far behind two wheels in handling. This Russian rig is so crude it's like going back to bikes I rode as a teen in the 60's. Ok, maybe not that refined...

Hot chocolate! Nearest dealer to me only has coffee.

I kept two bikes running this winter, usually take the batteries out of all but the '07 Ural hack, but last winter I could've ridden a Harley a few times, so the 1200 stayed ready to push the starter button this winter.

While back, got a good rain/snow mix that flushed the salt, sure feels good to get back on two wheels when it's been too nasty for a couple months. Even when it's like this, worth a bit of discomfort for the joy of it.

I ride a RKC and wife a Softail Deluxe. She broke her leg 2 years ago and said she might not be able to ride again, so I bought a CVO Limited for 2 up riding. She is back on hers, but there are days when she just wants to be a passenger.

I have two and the wife has one. I would have three, but the dealer offered me too much on trade for my 2012 FB to pass up. I have three garages between two houses, and room is an issue. I sold a 49 Caddy to make more room last year, and I am still full. I need to build another garage...

The mathematical formula for the proper number of bikes to own is:

X+1= the proper number of bikes to own

X= number of bikes currently owned

Side car does not need to be fast to be great. That one is mounted on a 1996 FB. When ever there is a gathering at this house the kids line up for a ride. The first time many of them saw it they can and ask now it is just expected. The of course there are the moms that have to try after the children show them up

So I saw this post early this morning, but could not answer. Post would have to be rephrased as, " Why does a man need 3 Harley's." But even that does not ask the right question which might actually read, "Why does a man need 3 Harley's and three non-Harley's?" But then I saw the X + 1 and I now think it should be H + 1 and X + 1. The number of Harley's you currently own plus the one you need soon and the number of non-Harley's you own plus the one you will add soon. Since the question was asked so restrictively, I cannot answer, but the best answer so far was the guy that needs to build another garage. He's got the right attitude about the problem. Oh, for me, number 3 is my loaner for friends who arrive by alternate modes of transportation.
