Know this is an oil thread but if you really want to do what Harley engineers say, put a straight 50 non-detergent gear oil in the transmission and primary. You are close with the Mobil 1 Syn 75/90 for the transmission except it is a GL5 and your transmission just may have some gliding brass material on the shift forks.

That high detergent motor oil has an anti-friction additive that is not too good on the clutch and the detergent additive to keep particles in suspension to be caught by a filter. Primary and transmission does not have filters. Those magnets are just there to catch metal to show a failure. However, they always seem to have stuff on them.

The only specific fluid for the transmission and primary is Harleys' stuff but you only need a couple quarts. So the cost is not all that bad. This is just my opinion as an engineer and what Harley recommends. And of course, what you have is used by a lot of people and will work.

Man! Sorry. I should have known better than ask this question. There's enough confusion on the metric and British forums and they're only filling one hole. 3 Holes is just too many opinions to handle.

Kind of disappointed no one mentioned extra virgin olive oil. Oops, forgot, that's for the muffler bearings.

Just for piece of mind, I stopped into a guy's shop that worked as a Harley mechanic for years and has been on his own for several more. He's well known in the area. He told me it's not that big a deal as long as it's changed when it supposed to be. He said that Mobil 1 v-twin could go in all 3 holes or as I originally posted, v-twin in engine and primary and Mobil 1 gear in the tranny. He said don't worry about it either way so I am going to stick with my original post.

Since you ask, I have these in my shop for those that follow the tin men. Even the stop leak girl for all those leaks they say are caused by synthetics. Even Mobil one has a synthetic oil out now to help...

grubsie,

Just to give you more insight into some of the posts. If you do elect to PM boston jim, be prepared. What I mean by prepared is lube your ahole with Amsoil Astro Glide. Jim believes it's Amsoil or nothing. He will push Amsoil so far up your butt you'll taste it.

Nothing more needs to be said.
