1998 Fatboy Fork Rebuild Oil Capacity and type ?????
Hello,
I am rebuilding my forks and I am wondering what is the "dry" capacity for stock forks? I asked three dealerships and all three gave me different answers. 9.8, 11.2, and 11 ounces.
Also, I am told to use type E and from best I understand it is 20wt oil. IF I move to 15wt will the ride quality improve on abrupt shallow pothole type road situations?
I just redid the forks on my 94 Fatboy and I want to say it was just over 11 oz. I can take a look in the service manual tonight to verify. I also went with some 20wt HD fork oil.
Not sure if its the same forks as my Deluxe, but I just replaced my factory springs with the progressive drop-in lowering springs. Funny, the manual called for 11.5 oz of fork oil, but the bike only had 8 oz. I replaced it with 11.5 oz like the manual called for.
This. Dry means the forks have been disassembled, wet is for a drain and refill. Type E fork oil is pretty thin oil, more like ATF. I use HD "performance heavy" with much better results.

The 1996 Service manual for the FatBoy Flstc/F/N list the same amounts as above
