Off topic, but I need some help. I bought My Wife
a 2008 XL 1200L and an engine guard. I went through
every Allen wrench I owned, and the 7/32 SAE
Fit in, but was too loose. I went to Lowe's and for
20 bucks, bought a set of metric Hex sockets, thinking
the 6mm would work to remove the Horn, but
none will fit. All the horns I see on YouTube are
the side mounting ones.

She is going to the Smokey Mountain HD riding class to learn how to ride,
and I want to remove the horn so I can install
the engine guard asap.
Thanks for Your help on what size hex wrench
I need. ctguy1955@yahoo.com is My email

I have an 07 1200L and its horn is the same as your wife's 2008. I am not sure you need a wrench. Look at the assembly:

You need to remove screw number 4

HTH.

I believe you need to remove the two bolts that go through the horn bracket into the engine brace in order to install the engine guard on the same two bolts. Naturally it is easier if you remove the horn first.

7/32 = 0.21875 inches = 5.5625mm
You say that 7/32 fits but is loose. In that case the next smaller SAE is 3/16. If metric, try the 5mm. It's got to be somewhere there.

Had to drill new holes for the bottom
plate, now I need some larger washers.

Thanks Everyone!
