Has anyone mounted a DD D4 under the old style fairing? I have a 2009 Street Glide and ordered a mounting plate. With the amp on the mounting plate touching the backside of the speedo and tach the fairing still will not button up.
I tried tilting the amp which helped but was still a good half inch from getting the fairing back on. If anyone has successfully mounted one under an old style fairing and can teach an old dog a new trick I'm all ears but pictures would be really nice.
cut the bottom of the gauge retention brackets. The black plastic pieces that hold the gauges in. Notch them out and slide the amp back further under the gauges where you notched. Also may need to get a new piece of aluminum sheared if not deep enough to do what I stated.

Just did this install for JT Metal. We used industrial velcro and set it right on top of the radio. Amp fit perfect. Don't really think the mounting plate is necessary. It's a small amp. Not going anywhere.
The D4 being 9 inches long is much wider than my Kenwood 998 causing it to rest on the radio/fairing brackets before coming in contact with the top of the radio. I did what Sly suggested and that gets me very close to where I need to be.
The upper arrow shows how much of the outer top corner is digging into my sound mat. The lower arrow shows the radio/fairing bracket that the amp comes in contact with before resting on top of my radio. The dimensions of this amp is 9x5x2 so it seems the 2" height is the main reason for amp not fitting. I'm going to modify my mount to get the ends of this amp as close to the radio/fairing brackets as I can and I think that will lower the amp a quarter of an inch and hopefully that should work.

Gann, yep yep.......I also added tie straps, one at each end. Like you said to.
I never knew qualifications for mounting amps were, part engineer, fabricator, pro molex plug relocator and having a major in patience. Sly's recommendation and the modification of the amp mount the fairing is now fitting really well. I'm ashamed to say I've been on this for 6 hours and at times I thought I was getting in over my head but thanks to you guys and taking my time all is well.
