Default Help filling holes in a tour pak

Hoping someone else has ran into this as the dealer was of no help. Bought a used tour pak that previous owner had installed the chrome rack onto the top lid. I really do not want to have the rack onto the lid unless I go on a trip and need the extra storage but I cant seem to find a chrome plug or such to fill the now vacant holes in the lid. Surely someone else has removed this from the tour pack lid and put some kind of a plug in the holes? If someone has done this please help.

Go to Ace Hardware and buy the small plastic push in plugs. You may need to use a round file or hit the holes with a 5/16" bit and buy the 5/16 plugs. The 1/4" plugs may be to small if the holes are drilled by HD to 9/32". Paint them to match. Have very small low heads on them. Just did this to my chopped tour pac this weekend. Installed the rack for an upcoming trip, but dont want it on otherwise. Bought the touchup paint from local HD dealer to paint the plugs. Going to buy another set of plugs $0.33 each and paint silver 1st, then hit with the HD paint. The black plugs makes for a too dark base.

This is what one guy did. I don't have any details but it looks like screws with those decorative chrome snap on caps.

You could use a 1/4" carriage head bolt, stainless of course.

Our rack serves as a handle with which to open the lid of our tourpak - I wouldn't take it off for that reason alone!

Most hardware stores sell a variety of plugs. I bought some metal ones from home depot and painted them black for my rear fender. I do like the idea of chrome carriage head bolts. You could polish some aluminum or paint them to match also.

I did what CVO SG suggested when I replaced the old style rack with a newer rack. You could also try these, but I would run a bead of clear silicone RTV sealant under them as well.

I used chrome button head screws on my vette - you knew something was there before but it didn't look bad.

I bought a bike with a rack installed. When I'm not using the rack I take it off and use stainless button head bolts 1/2" in length, 4 rubber washers and 4 flange nuts, on the fence weather or not to paint them. No pics but looks very similar to the green bike above. Washers are prob not needed but I didn't want the bolts to mess up the paint.
