A little bit more progress today....

I put the brake rotors onto the new front wheel and got it balanced. I think I will replace the rotors at some point in the near future, but they will do for now.

I also got the brake callipers and front fender on - so now the front end is nearly done. It just needs the brake lines done and the bars put on. I need to wire the bar switches first though...

It's beginning to look like a motorcycle....

I thought that should have been a simple job, but it was a complete and total pain in the ****. The first lot of braided hose I had was too thick for the hose finishers I had. Then I discovered there wasn't room between the in and out ports of the S&S oil pump for two lines with finishers.

And cutting that hose and trying to keep the braids from fraying is a royal PITA. I ended up wrapping it with tape, then putting a cable tie tight around the tape and cutting against that.

In the end I ordered some PTFE hose with overbraid which was a crucial couple of millimetres smaller in outside diameter than the original hose I had. That hose is nice, but it is stiffer and has a larger bend radius.

Anyway - that's that done. Needs a couple of hose separators to tidy it up a little, so they are on order....
What was your source for the PTFE lines? I'm going to be starting a rebuild later this summer or early fall and this is exactly what I was looking to do with the oil lines.
Thanks, and BTW I am really enjoying this thread !!!

Sorry guys - but no update right now. I am just back from a 10 day tour of the Alps on my Fatbob!

It's quite a good excuse as we rode all of the high mountain passes and some of the most technical roads in Europe - including the Stelvio Pass, and the Fuela Pass - where it was actually snowing!

Hoping to get some Shovel time this coming week!

Sorry Dan - but this probably won't help you as I am in the UK. But the line and fittings came from a UK eBay vendor. You can probably find the same thing much closer to where you are....here's a link to the right hose type which does show the specification:

Some serious front brakage you have going on there,

Be careful with those in all seriousness till you get a feel for the handling, my dual 4 piston Wilwoods on my shovel will damn near do a stoppie if I grab a sudden handful.

Yeah - I plan some serious shakedown rides on this bike and a lot of getting to know it including mucho brake testing! The brakes are a significant upgrade on the original equipment and they are progressive rather than being binary, but they will for sure take a bit of getting used to!
