So as i can see, choppers are not popular anymore? People are making fun of people building them?

I don't think anyone is making fun of a builder. I don't think unbolting stuff counts as 'building' or makes it a chopper.
And 'LAF pipes and performance' shouldn't be used in the same sentence either.

Unbolting isn't building but unbolting **** off your stock bike is where it all starts. It's where it all kind of started. I think that's what this dude is starting to dip into.

Built choppers (think 1970s, not OCC) actually have a huge following and subculture right now. I wasn't tryin to give the OP flack for wanting to unbolt some stuff from his bike. Good on him if he wants to.

I was more so hasslin maverick for his suggestions on how to relieve the bike of anything that has the slightest semblance of being useful or safe in the name of "chopper".

To RedIron:

I think you've got a good start on trimming her down. By removing stock exhaust, you'll also be removing the bracket for the stock pipe setup which will be more unnecessary weight removed once you do the new setup. I've seen plenty of guys run no belt guards and be just fine. Increased chance of getting somethin caught in there, yeah, but chances are fairly slim if you're careful.

IF you still want to retain signals front and back, you could get rid of the stock signals for weight reduction and run some LED strips or super low profile signals instead. There are some out there that weigh next to nothing.
While you're at it, you could remove the rear strut covers, which are essentially unnecessary and just for dress up. The actual struts underneath don't look as smooth, but they're black like the covers so it won't look too different.

Well said.

I'll add:

More than water/dirt can come up at you with no front fender.

Learn how to not lock up the rear brake vs. not using it (falls under ride it more, look at it less)

Choppers are cool - and they can actually be fully functional as well. - not mutually exclusive.

See my build thread (not a chopper but Norcal leaning/influenced) for example of low profile turn signals - basically a zip tie that has LED's embedded.

Have fun. Ride safe.

At no point did I say I was building anything, or that LAF ground shakers = performance. They're drag pipes, not Bassani or Vance & Hines that have a lot research and money into them. I know I will lose some low and mid range torque, which I m hoping to relieve a little with some lollipops. I'm riding an Iron 883, it's not a speed demon anyways.

I am not removing brakes or the speedometer (clamshell), nor am I removing headlight, turn signals and brake lights. I'm trying to remove unnecessary items that add weight. I am a minimalist kind of guy. Just the suggestion is enough to send people here into a fit!

Again, I'm new to Harley's, not bikes. I've ridden plenty of bikes with no chain guards. The only thing removed for looks was the front fender. Yes I have ridden without one in the rain, so I know what happens.

Apparently the broad generalization that Harley owners are either stuck up snobs, or window licking ******** is correct, judging by the majority of responses I received in this thread.

To the couple people who actually tried to make useful suggestions, thank you.

Right on, brother. Here's a couple links to the signals. Not my bike, but he has the super light aluminum LED signals I mentioned plus he has the strut covers removed so you can see what that looks like too. So many options out there as opposed to stock.

Clamshells are the housings for the handlebar switches...the speedometer is just the speedometer.

Pretty sure whoever told you to remove headlight and brake light were joking. Turn signals and front brake are pretty common to remove when going for the "minimalist" look that you mentioned.
