my size 10/10.5 fits between the shifters on my slim no problem but I only use the heel shifter occasionly now. I used it a lot more on my fatboy but the two were closer together

Love my heel shifter!
Makes shifting faster which makes me faster
I'm also a short guy and my feet pla t the floor bosrds further back, so I added a longer heel shifter I bought on the bah
You're right about it clearing the entire back of the board
ow both left and right feet are centered
Do it

I added an extended heel shift rod from Walters Workshop It is adjusted low so that it just clears the floor board to change gears. Gives me lots of room on the board to move my foot around. Love the set-up, wouldn't want it any other way!

There you go! Finally someone answers the OP's question (note: I didn't either).

some guys use a short bolt or piece of threaded rod an make a short heel shifter peg small enough you can put your heel next to it an have room. I have mine set so my toe clears the shifter an I can ride with it there an the heel is as low as I can get it so I don't need to lift my heel much.

And I'll be the first to say "Different strokes for different folks ..." To each his own ... for me heel shifting is something I just could not get used to ... that seemed unnatural to me ... I tried it for better part of a year ... then just said screw it and went back to the old way. Heel shifters got their start so cops wouldn't scuff their shiny boots ... or so I'm told. I caught the cuff of my jeans on mine as I was trying to put my left foot down at a stop ... had to fight REAL hard to avoid going over ... that's when I said that's it ... GONE.

I also know a novice rider who was making a left turn at a light ... and as he was accelerating through the intersection ... he picked up his size 14 logging boot and set it down on the floorboard ... but caught the heel shifter with the heel of his boot. bike slipped into neutral momentarily ... revved up ... then caught 2nd at high RPM ... catapulted him into a light pole ... ON THE WAY HOME FROM THE DEALERSHIP WITH HIS BRAND NEW HERITAGE ... !!! Ya think he caught crap from all his friends ... ?!?!?

Regarding using the heel shift peg as a "heel catch" ... what about your right foot??? If you don't have a problem not having the heel catch on your right foot ... why would it be a problem with your left foot ... just asking. Like I said - different strokes for different folks ....

Never used my heel shifter until I got a swollen and sore toe from upshifting with my toe. I had Harley Davidson riding boots on but they didn't have a steel toe or another piece of added leather over the toe area. I too was an old fashioned rider who would never use the heel shifter. But now after 1 day I am totally use to using it and my toe swelling and pain is gone. I ride a 2015 Heritage Classic. Toe pain on the left foot is not uncommon with motorcycle riders.
