Has anyone put an extended shift lever to replace the heel shift? I'm thinking if I had a longer lever I could lower it a little and have more room on the floorboard for my foot.
I have the heel shifter on my '16 Heritage. While I believe I could get used to not having it, I think I'd really miss it. I do, however, lament the amount of floorboard space for my foot. I can certainly empathize with the OP for wanting to at least try this change.
Check out floorboard extensions from v-twin goodies. moves the floorboards out 1 1/2in.
gets your legs away from the engine and more room on the boards. ya they scrape once and awhile , but ,the older i get the less they scrape ..Cruising ,,,
My 1st two street bikes were toe shifters. I traded my '80FXS on a new '89 FLSTC. It was my first experience with a heel to toe. I don't know if I could use a toe only again... love the heel shifter...
For a project/fun I just bought an '01 FXSTS... it has forward pegs and toe only shifter... I pick it up tomorrow.... I'll find out tomorrow how I feel about a toe only after all these years, may have to add the heel shifter to my new bike...
Granted, I am only a size 10 shoe, I don't really notice any problem with my feet on the boards..... if it were a space/comfort issue, I'm sure I could adapt to whatever gives the most comfort...
Especially on long rides, comfort trumps most other considerations for me....
