I hope HD brings this bike back. This one would sway me from my Switchback.

Default 1983 fxrt

New here and would like to connect with other shovel FXR owners, especially FXRt ..i lucked into a sweet one and its stock other than some small parts.Looking for the stock head pipes, a black tour box, the glove boxes. and the correct timer cover which i see on othr shovel models but not sure of year fitment. can;t even find an up close pic. ,would know it if i saw it.it brushed aluminum and similar to the first V2 evo timer covers..i have alot of parts to trade.some of it 83 RT only.i've done ALOt of research and been ridin builidn choppers as a machinist for 40 years..Fakbook pages are a joke..if somebod could post up a timer cover picture that would be great ,no computer skills here.. . i may be lookin for an FXR frame in the near future.i have 95in twink FXD I am goin to be parting out..weighing the options of a rigid or softail build VS n FXR.,but may just end up for sale too many projects and this bike too badly cobbled and repeatedly dumped by owner to bother with. thanks

Welcome to the EVO forum. You might get lucky here, some of us have shovel knowledge too. You might want to also try the shovel forum here also. Then there is a shovel specific website but I don't remember the address. Someone will be along shortly with that.
Good luck.

Default Fairing mount, 83 FXR

Greetings all, I have an 83 FXR that I am thinking of putting an FXRT fairing on. However, my frame does not have mounting bosses like the later model frames do. I checked a friends 82 model, it also does not have the mounting bosses near the steering head. I know some of these bikes were produced with a fairing, were the frames unique to those models? or is there a different bracket?

Those fairings are like unicorns! I can't answer your questions, but you can do more research by using a parts website.

For you Shovel FXR guys... the later '83 and newer frames were the ones with the fairing mounts at the neck. Earlier did not have them... mid '83 or something change..
Finding an original shovel FXR headpipe is gonna be a Challenge, as the stupid Rubber donut on the rear of the frame cradle was used as an exhaust mount... really bad idea.. I wrecked two myself before I learned [yea I'm a slow learner] Don't use that thing under any circumstances... just like the stupid Frame mount for the 2-1 systems ruined those also..
That and I believe that after '84 is when the newer struts and more shock angle were introduced... maybe excepting on the "P" models..

Not shovel specific, but sometime in there '91 maybe, they included the sight glass in the oil tank, and maybe previous to that there was the drain hose and "plug" added to the battery tray... I'm unsure on these... Just like I do Not recall when the Rear master cylinder was moved... but I know it was...

BTW an FXS[B] headpipe will serve.. If mounted like the later models to the Trans, and Not the Frame.
