Well done, John Barnes. Well done.
What, or how, would you have done it better? What information is inaccurate or "poorly researched"? Just trying to understand your comment.

Nonono...you misunderstood my comment.

I was complimenting this article because it IS very well done, as compared to previous CCE articles, several of which were so poorly done as to be laughable.

This one is excellent!! That's why I said: "Well done!"

I'd go back and edit my previous post to make it more clear, but unfortunately HDF no longer allows you to edit your own posts after a few minutes.

RIDE- ENJOY *& DONT BE A DICK & CONDEMN anyone-unless you're NOT a COWARD and can do it Face To Face.....EXCHANGE Ideas, swap ,talk mods and performance tips and just have fun. Been a Drag Racer for years......- my 09 FXR Runs mid 10s consistently and even the rice burners and Ducati buddies( I OWN a DUCATI 6000 MONSTER ) have a blast racing ME in the 1320' . I WIN 9 outta 10 times . I WONT even mention what REAL 1 %ER club I have been a member of for the last 7 years because that doesn't matter ( Yeah WERE ALL FXR & DYNA ADDICTS ) .....Gotta LOVE THE DYNA. The new H-D offerings in softail are just LAME LAME LAME ,underpowered and EPA choked baloney .. I'd be happy to share pics and other performance tricks, mods and info ( I'm an S&S Engine School and MMI Grad ) ......yer on 2 wheels baby...., Rockem and Ride it like You Stole It .REMEMBER : 3 CAN KEEP A SECRET IF 2 ARE DEAD ( Benjamin Franklin ) .i DIG the various opinions here ( with the exception of a few morons) - but it's all good . Carbureted EVO MOTORED H-D Motors are exceptional unless You buy an S&S twin Cam and have a BAKER DRIVETRAIN. All he rest are JUNK......but the FUN is in The Build.
I agree. I don't care if you ride an FXR, FXD, FLH, XVS or your grandpappy's GL...as long as your riding, you're one up on all the poor souls stuck in their cars, trucks, SUVs, crossovers, hybrids and whatever else b.s. has to be operated by spinning a wheel in your hand and stomping your feet.

Why bash anyone else's bike? What is to gain from it? If you wouldn't call a guy's bike a ragged POS to his face at the local bike spot...why be a keyboard tough guy and say it at the virtual bike spot? I don't really give two hairy ***** what anyone thinks about my bikes...I didn't get 'em for them, I got 'em for me. Ride whatever you've got, as long as it makes you happy. If it don't make you happy, get something that does.

[QUOTE=artsbest;16916536]What is your point here? Writing about what may happen is superfluous stuff. Deal and write what is at hand today. And besides your article was about 10X too long.[/QUOTE

The point was to have a little fun and to stir conversation....and it did. So, in that respect, the point was made.

That said, I appreciate your feedback about the length.

By the way, "FX" standing for "Factory Experimental" isn't speculation, Willie G said that's what he named it for.

I couldn't find any documentation to support that, nor was I able to speak to Mr. Davidson, so that is why I referred to that detail as "speculation." I don't like stating things as factual if I can't verify them to be true. The combining of the FL frames to the XL front-ends, however, was verifiable.

I hope you can appreciate my intent to use the most accurate facts and historical information as I can obtain, in my articles.

Either way, I appreciate your feedback.
John

My primary objective in writing for H-D Forums is to deliver to you (the readers) the most accurate and most interesting stories, deliver the most helpful information, and provide the most accurate write-ups as I can, all while doing it in the most entertaining and interesting ways allowed by the editors. I've got several more articles coming, so I hope you enjoy them.

Whether you love them or hate them, I appreciate your constructive feedback. I can only improve if I know what my faults are. I am, by no means, an expert on all things motorcycle, nor on all things Harley-Davidson, but I'll sure as hell try to be, especially if it means giving everyone an article worthy of the time it takes to read it.

Absolutely! I'm happy to provide some documentation for you! This is from page 173 of "100 Years of Harley-Davidson", by Willie G. Davidson, 2002.
