It is sad and I do feel sorry for the people that have had problems with the new M8 but at least let those of us that havent had problems enjoy their bikes.
I'm on my second one with no problems, out 20,526 on the 17 CVO Street glide. Im at 5296 miles on the 18 CVO Road glide.
I went out and enjoyed it for 292 miles yesterday.
I have had no problems with my M8, that's the answer to what this thread is after.
It's for the guys with no problems , there's other threads to air your "issues" .
Hey loudmouth; read the OP post.
He said few folk were damning the M8 and hoping for failure.
I don't like being grouped in with the whole crowd.
Red I have pretty much the same thought process as you when it comes to the first year or two of a new model of anything. I have strayed a few times however, including the M8. I intended on waiting... and then I rode one. 4087 miles, over 3000 on the SE Stage II parts with the 462 camshaft. Love this thing. Ride safe!
Ill tell you SoCal, my original idea was to buy one of the bikes that guys may have traded in for a new M8. After I checked out a few things here and there I was looking at not a huge difference between a good/clean, low mileage bike and a new M8. Im kind of a as long as the big parts work. Rather spend a few more dollars and get everything starting fresh at the same time. I dont tend to buy a bike for the paint job, Fenders, handlebars, etc. As long as the big Parts ie, engine, trans, electrical, etc. are good to go. Thats just me and I havent always done that but mostly. So after looking, I just did as you and rode one and went ahead and finished up the paperwork that Saturday night and walked out w/two extra years of extended warranty. Very glad to see the HDs still hold their resale value. They have since the Evo. I think we both made the correct choice and went ahead and spent a little more now and peace of mind afterwards.
I just completed a 1900 mile 5 day ride in temps between 37 degrees to 79 degrees. Cruised interstate highways at 80 MPH and two lane roads a little slower. I averaged 42.79 MPG and the bike ran perfectly. I checked the engine oil today and it looks brand new out of the bottle and the level was right to the top of the proper area on the dip stick. I did not take time to check the transmission fluid but will later in the week.
Granted this puts me just under 3k miles total on the clock but they are all impressive miles.
I have a 2017 Ultra Limited with 36,724 km (22,819miles) from April 29 till November 3rd. no problems other than a flat tire possible ran over something after fueling up. Excellent Bike
