Default Windshield

Hey I think my previous post fell away. Sorry If I'm reposting.

Which windshields are you guys running. Here's a picture of mine.
at 10" the buffeting is brutal. I'd like to keep it as low as possible and will tolerate some discomfort to maintain the kool factor. Clearchoice has a nice 11" sport while Cee Bailey has a 13". I'd love to hear opinions and see pics to get a sense of the profile.
cheers

Technically mine is a 1983 FLHTP, but I also picked up a tour glide fairing from an '84 FLT with a radio caddy that I hope to put on mine.

I just (2 months ago) got my 1996 Tour Glide. Exact same paint as yours. I love it, but have been garage bound due to fuel issues. Inside of the gas tank was rusted all to heck, and now that I got that taken care of, the fuel lines are leaking. Still, it's worth it. The few miles I have ridden it have been a pleasure. I love the road handling and riding position of the bike. How has yours been doing? Any major issues with this 22 year old machine?

My 92 FLTCU in Australia. Got as a non runner, currently resurrecting it. Lots more work to do than I originally thought (as is usually the case with old non running bikes).

Lots of beautiful Tour Glides in here...I appreciate seeing members rides. They were and still are very much competent cross country rides.

I came so close to buying a 1996 EFI Tour Glide brand new back then....chose not to because the waiting period was so long. I also remember a salesman telling me the Tour Glide was about to get updated in a year or two.....

They’re some of the best touring bikes Harley ever came out with.

Do you remember what the waiting period was? Tour Glide information is very hard to come by here in Australia as up until 2006 there was no official Harley Davidson Australia organisation. All the bikes (not just FLT's) were privately imported by authorised dealerships, none that I have contacted have kept any information (prices/numbers imported etc) from back in that period.

I had an 89 FLHS that I converted to a FLTC...LOVED that bike, but I had to sell her. Alma may go that direction if I can find all the parts.

Hello old chap, from the UK. I've owned my 1990 FLHS from new, so can give you an impression of the Harley market at the time, from a Johnny-foreigners' viewpoint. When I enquired about buying my bike in September 1989 I was keen to place a specific order (being a current Harley owner). Demand for Harleys had exploded during the previous year or so and the factory adopted a war-like footing, to maximise output for 1990, hence satisfy as many customers as possible. Well before that September the dealers had all been asked to place firm orders for bikes, with no prospect of any change in model or spec throughout that production year. Having learned that and wanting a black FLHS, I called around our few UK dealers, but couldn't find one that was not already reserved. Blue was my second choice, so I settled on that colour. I discovered later that only around 20 FLHSs were ordered in the UK that year (largest overseas Harley market at the time). Delivery didn't happen until June 1990. A couple of years later I met a US airman, serving in the UK, who had given up ordering a new bike in the USA and ordered one through his nearest UK dealer, as he could get one a lot earlier than back home! It cost him more, but he got his bike (a red FLHS) much sooner. High demand continued for several years, relative to output, while the MoCo met the challenge of significantly increasing their manufacturing capacity, which was eventually roughly tripled, compared with 1990 output. It is quite likely that the US market continued to have a longer wait compared with overseas markets.

Back in 1970 I ordered a new Rocket 3 and suffered the reverse fate! Despite living a short ride from the BSA factory gates my local dealer took many months to wrestle my bike out of their clutches - as they were busy servicing the US market! What goes around, comes around....
