I belong to 2 HOG groups and have in the past belonged to a third, they ALL used (and still use) the CB. True if I'm riding solo I don't even put the CB on but in a group ride, small or large group, HOG or not we're all using the CB. Just sayin'...
My HOG group uses CB communications on all our rides. I have a couple close riding buddies & we use CB when we ride together. I don't foresee any changes in our communication equipment in the near future.
For my use, I don't see any real advantage for installing the WHIM & buying BT headset: when temps get to 75 & above the helmet becomes optional, above 90 it's usually left at home. Then I use this:
Works great, sounds great, very good for music reproduction while riding.
I agree. Yamaha and Honda seem to be adding features to there cross country touring models. The Yamaha Star Venture Transcontinental includes an infotainment center with CB, Park assist (reverse), windshield adjustment with the push of a button, etc. The new Honda Goldwing has these features also. Both really offering CVO features (or more) for the price of the Limited.
I own a 15 CVO Limited and LOVE IT, but as Harley continues to increase prices and take away features, it's pretty hard not to take notice of the Yamaha or Honda, both of which are also dependable products with a good supply of dealers nation wide.
Blame it on the bean counters. Every dollar they save per bike is an extra quarter mil for the CEO. SEC says he made 9.4 mil in '16, up 44.6% from '15. Too bad Harley sales didn't go up that much...

It seems that MoCo getting even cheaper on the FLHTK. I think it was 2017 they took out the CB. 2018 the two-tone paint models only have one color on the tour-pac. Can hardly wait for the 2019's to show up.
I have a 2018 and if I remember correctly, the very bottom 1.5 inches of the tour pack is two toned. I havent looked at it in a month, so Ill have to pull the cover off and double check.
