Locked it in two gears and installed sprocket and super nut. 110 ft-lbs is a lot! Put it into neutral and installed the shifter top. I cleared the shift arm and ratchet cover, so they keep their natural finish. I'll probably spray the whole tranny with S-100.

Vent screw goes in a specific hole. Looks like it's all done!

But it's not - Harley uses this weird drain screw washer, that isn't in the Jim's kit. Why not?

Thanks to Johnjzjz for all his help and taking time to explain things to me on the phone.

While waiting for the drain washer, I cleaned and painted the transmission mounting plate and hardware. I also cleaned up all the misc. hardware that was in two little containers.

Tracking says the washer will come tomorrow so I can install the tranny.

Do you think I should install the swing arm first?

I don't know what happened to the pictures - they should link to the full sized ones - worked yesterday? I'll start doing it differently from now on.

Not much today - swing arm bearings and seals arrive Saturday.

I'll start cleaning and polishing the motor and inner primary next.

Joe12RK, I don't know if you know so I'll bring up shimming.
You will probably have to shim the engine and/or transmission mounts to get things to line up properly. Even if your frame is in nice shape and been checked in a jig, when you put it together check to see if the mounts need shims.
It's worth the trouble, in my opinion.
I have a '79 FXS...or perhaps it's more accurate to say it used to be a '79 FXS...
I'm enjoying watching your build.

yes, thank you, i will shim the motor to get it flat, and do the proper tightening sequence with the inner primary motor and tranny. thank for the advice, though, and to twizted, even though i'll have to re-install the tranny. any job worth doing is worth doing over...

Are you rebuilding the engine?

What are you doing for tanks? I noticed the two tabs on the back bone are folded over. When I made my tank those tabs were a sore spot but I left them alone and worked around them by relieving the tunnel on the new tank.
