Does the Twin Cam engine points cover have a back plate? (Some people call it the timing cover). There is nothing in there and I know it is supposed to be empty. The reason I ask, I bought a cheap points cover for it. I put the cover on but after I screw it down it is not flush. It is recessed I would say about an eighth of an inch. I remember that Sportsters use to have back plates. I am wondering if there is a back plate for the Twin Cam that I need to put in before I put on the cover.

None. You need to shim it. Small brass washers with one side cut off. Coke can shims stuck together with Elmer's glue. What ever works. I added 30 HP to my motor with $5.00 nockoff SE timer cover...

You should be getting at least 10.. but it depends on where you put your gas cap when fueling up.
