The reason some of us go with 15w50 is it’s for the motor only. I use NAPA full Syn made by Valvoline for $3.99 a quart. I hate to pay extra for the word V Twin on a bottle of oil. I use redline primary fluid as recommended by Barnett Cutch and Walmart or other 75w90 full Syn gear oil for the transmission. I get the black filters from the dealer. But I have used other brands, Wix is a good one.
No problem with using everything else that has been mentioned. I usually change once a year or 5000 motor, 10000 primary and 20000 transmission...Every year for the last 2 years as I haven’t rode that much in the last 3 years....I still managed to put 98000 miles on my 07 FLHTC.
Happy trails.

I dont mean to drag this post along. I was just reading the manual for the oil changes. Just to cross my T's and dot my I's. The manual says to put FORMULA + transmission & primary chain lubricant in the transmission and the primary. It seemed to stress more so formula w the oil in the primary than the transmission. So my question is do you guys add formula as well w your oils? If so formula? Is the mobile1 for primary not sufficent enough and red line shockproof not sufficent in the transmission? Should i add formula as well?
No , one or the other...formula plus works ok but it’s up to you. I was using it in my primary with my stock clutch with no issues for 92000 miles but when I upgraded to Barnett they recommended Red line ...it’s a bit more expensive but it’s only every 10000 miles.
Walmart has good motorcycle oil prices. I use Harley filters. Since you are using full synthetic Syn3 from the 1000 mile service. The owners manual states your next service is at 5000 miles. If you use Dino oil you should change oil every 2500 to 3000 miles.
Cheers
Use 15-50 Mobile 1 in your V-twin at your own risk!
I used that oil in my Dyna and my Roadking for 16 years beating the hell out of them every time I rode. Now both bikes are not as fast as they once were . I think the oil is directly to blame. I'm considering a law suit. Maybe class action if I can find anybody else with an 18 year old bike that doesn't perform as well as it once did and you're thinking the oil is to blame...
