Set the primary chain adjuster to get 3/4" play at the top, and it's done for now. I will clean up the outer primary cover and install that another day.
I forgot to say last week that I decided to isolate the primary and plugged the drain and vent lines with 1/8" pipe plugs. The former oil supply hose (yellow) will be the vent.
Tightening or loosening the crank nut can be a bitch. Here's a plate that I made out of 3/32 sheet metal. I can put 3' on leverage on the crank nut without any issues at all... Beats the hell out of an impact which technically can decrease the magnetism in the rotor. You know dead blows to a magnet can weaken them....
you can apply the same to your clutch basket... And it's totally reusable..
i had joined the shovehead forum way back and after I was a long time member and have done for many years answer questions
I was attacked by at least 10 of the we know more then you bunch, so I left - were some of the guys very knowledgeable yes - but its a pissing contest about who thinks they know more then the other guy for the most part, and some of what is bantered around is not true and incorrect - just so you know
Are you talking about shovelhead.us ? I've been a memeber over there for a lot of years and I've never seen that happen. They were always a great bunch of guys to me.

That site is closed now. Not taking new members. I've tried a dozen times to join but it always says "registration is closed". Even emailed the admins a couple times. No reply. Too bad, too. Sounds like a good site. Perhaps it's just a closed old boy network now?

I got the same dog pile and haven't been back. There's some very knowledgeable guys over there but there's also a healthy gang of serious ego idiots too. I may not be the top dog for shovels but I damned sure can hold my own and then some when it comes to making them move and doing it reliably.
People without Ego's have a way of thinking outside the box.... It appears that the other sure doesn't want to open the door.. I was turned away as well and probably for the best...
