I'm thinking of taking a trip next in May (next month) to the Orlando Fl with a buddy on the cycles. You guys have been great helping me plan a trip in the past. If the weather is decent, I'd like to avoid the freeways as much as possible. I'm leaving from the Detroit metro area. I put the start/stop locations on Google maps and came up with this route. I figure we can get there in 2-3 days with an occasional sight seeing stop along the way. Does this route look good?
Bunch of nice riding area you will be going through. SHould give your self more time if you can for side trips and off the interstates.
I've gone Tampa Bay to Middle Michigan a few times for a Pig Roast.
I would suggest looking at us27, I pick it up in Northern Ky but I am sure you can grab it further north. That is a great ride down through Ky. If you do that make a lunch stop at Proud Mary's BBQ, it's located on the river, they have indoor/outdoor dining. It's a pretty cool stop with good food. www.proudmarybbq.com
I should say, I am not affiliated with them, Just a happy customer. We stop by there almost every time we talk a trip south on the bikes.
Humn if you are allowing 2-3 days.....if it was me....one day to the Smokey Mountains spend the night.....see the Smokeys spend the night....leave for Florida next day....
As you can see from my locations this is what I do twice a year.....nice ride to and from.
Going 23 is a nice ride, but i think it will ad more time than what it say's, i drive 23 to deer hunt every year, it takes over 4 hrs, for me , to get to Jackson, just south of Chillicothe, probably close to 3.5 hrs, on 75 to get to Cincinnatti, , but it's a much more scenic route, Maybe stop in Waldo, G&R Tavern for the world famous Fried bologna sandwich, a little past Marion , ohio,
Nothing whatsoever good within a 60 mi. radius around Orlando... for FL I would get to 27 or 441 before you get near Orlando then hit the Fl turnpike into Orlando. I have ridden 27 for much of it's length in different places... pretty nice most of the way except around Cincy. 23 in eastern KY is great (country music trail), any parts of 441, 421, and 127 are good too... too many to mention, really. All of the bourbon trail in KY... can't get much better if you like bourbon and have the time!
