Used his advice to make patterns and apply sound deadener to my pre Rushmore batwing. Turned out excellent.
Will pay forward locally remainder of Noico product and patterns if wanted and if not will send to an American brother or sister.
Heh now you've got me curious. I might tinker with sound deadener on my pre-Rushmore fairing one day.
Was this procedure documented in a post you may have a link to?
There was a thread awhile back about Dynamat and a few sets of patterns that were made up and being mailed around for people to use. I made a set for my fairing ( 05 Ultra) a few weeks ago and was able to cover the whole inside with one sheet of Dynamat.
Put “dynamat batwing install” in the search and it’ll come up.
The process is actually quite easy. A little time consuming but fun, satisfying and it looks clean.
If you look at the underside of the fairing it’s sectioned off. I just put a couple layers of masking tape in each section then using utility knife cut out the patterns. I divided the fairing in half with a pencil line and made patterns for only half. They are the same on both sides just reversed. I cut them 3/4” shy of the perimeter to avoid fitment issues. Not sure there would be.
Carefully peel up the asking tape intact and transfer to thicker paper and cut out the pattern. Trace pattern onto the dynamat or Noico and cut out with regular scissors. Then it’s just peel and stick. The middle section is large and I cut that pattern in half and installed in two pieces. Not sure about the dynamat but the Noico is supposed to be rolled smooth for proper adherence. The seam in the center area I covered with foil tape. Probably not needed but looks cleaner.
These are not mine but you get the idea. I used Noico . Same stuff just plain foil ,not as pretty.
Groovy thanks for the tips. I don't really know what to try I had heard of second skin also. Because of my oversized amp I have wires touching but not pushing the outer fairing cap when it goes back on. I'm torn as to whether or not I will have to fight with it to get everything back together and start trimming out material I just applied.
On your bike did it make enough difference in sound to make it worthwhile? I'm running WDX6 Motos in the fairing. I may add some polyfil as well.
Results are subjective but I personally think it sounds cleaner and bass is more crisp.
I already had the poly in place and noticed a difference. It definitely did not degrade the sq. And it was inexpensive. $35 Canadian and time.
