Looking to wire in a Quad Lock phone charger on my 99 FXDX. Instructions call for running a separate switch from the battery to use this. Now that would work just fine but it is one more thing to have to turn on/off and I would hate to forget to turn it off and my battery dies. Id like to wire this in to a key on source.
Looking in the manual and under the seat and the left side cover I dont see any accessory wire or accessory wire port to use. I do see a Data Link port under the left side cover. Its 4-prong Deutsch which includes a power, ground, serial data and flash pins. The power pin in that port is a key-on source.
I dont see why I couldnt buy the female Deutsch DT06-4s plug (HD part 72114-94BK) that connects to it and use the ignition power and ground terminals only to power the Quad Lock. This would eliminate any need to splice into the harness or the need to run a separate switch. Anyone have other clean methods of installing?
Here's how to create a switched and fused 12 volt connection for your phone charger without splicing into the harness.
A ground connection for the charger can be found under the seat or at the upper tripple tree.
Wired it in using my method of a Deutsch connector tapped into the Data Link connector utilizing only the key on and ground pins and am using a 3amp inline fuse for the phone charger (per Quad Lock). Works fantastic.
I was using a USB to battery tender connector for years but was sick of always having to connect/disconnect and carry a cable with me. Plus in the winter I use that battery tender connector for my heated gear. This hard-wired setup will work for my purposes.

I hope you used pin 4 from the data link to power your phone charger (white/black wire) which runs 12 v through the ignition circuit.
Pin 3 at the data link plug (violet/red wire) runs from the ignition mdule to the data link (serial data).
Pin 1 (green/red) and pin 2 (black) are used to retrieve data from the ignition module using a jumper wire.

of course. FSM diagram. Was just looking to see other options but this worked best IMO
