I got hit with a sledgehammer yesterday while riding
I was heading up to Mt Hood doing 65 and a long procession of semi-trucks was coming down the other way. One of them dislodged a sledgehammer from their truck and I saw it cartwheeling to me at high speed. It hit my leg and pulvarised my shin bone while also knocking out a huge piece of flesh. I didn't drop my bike though! None of those guys even stopped to help me. So here I lay in the trauma unit praying I don't lose my leg. There's nothing I couldve done different, just in the wrong place at the wrong time.

I dunno.... a sledgehammer coming at high speed and you doing 65. Probably would have broken the bones and the bike and you probably would have gone down at least from the pain. Not saying it didn't happen this way but......

ugh i've never been hit but i've come really close. a truck kicked up a road-sign that has been laying on the interstate. it took a big chunk out of the derby cover but missed me. pure luck. i saw the damned thing coming but it was flipping and flopping in every direction there was nothing i could do to avoid it.

Prayers for your recovery. I hit a turkey vulture Friday night in my wife's car. It took the passenger side mirror off. I can just imagine what that would have done to me. I don't even want to think about a sledgehammer!
