The bike you ride should fit your style and function, that's why its good HD has different lines, not everybody uses or rides their bike for the same reason. I like them all but prefer the touring line because it fits my needs, but if I had another HD, it would be a sporty or Vrod.
They might b for the girls u ride with. I dont ride with girls, they might be passengers but there not holding the handlebars.
As an X soldier, I don't need females on the battlefield cuz horndogs get all stooopid with women around and make dumb decisions, end Of story.
lol... seriously?
And what exactly does a girl riding a bike have to do with combat? Don't get me wrong, I appreciate your service but the misogyny is a bit much.
I am a new rider. I bought my 1st bike this March (HD48.) I could have bought any bike in the store, not bragging, just a fact. I fell in love with the 48. Your comment came across as diss on all sportster owners. I appreciate now that this isn't the case but rather you stating what you have experienced. Sorry if I came off rude. I am seeking out the rational of the populous.
Yes. If you consider the best power to weight ratio (other than a vrod) a good starter bike. Who cares just buy what you like and ride the h*ll out of it. I can't afford to spend 20 freakin thousand dollars on a street glide or I probably would. (I would have to keep the sporty for fun). To me its about the ride. Not the chrome.

When I was 15 (back in the 90's) I wanted an all chrome HD. Now, I have to pay for parts that will complete the balcking out of my engine. It's all about personal style. I proposed the question simply to understand if the general HD community thought of sportsters as "beginner" HD's. Seems that there is no decisive answer.
