with all the lay own plate brackets, side mount brackets, custom brackets, i tried to think a hair simpler......
now if this has been covered in the last 175 pages, i apologize! some of the pics, and pages refused to load with my great ultra low speed connection.
well a guy i work with was trying to sell me his factory modified lay down plate bracket for $50.... ok, not a bad deal, but i knew there was a more "efficient" way to do this..... (by the way the wife calls that "CHEAP")
well i took the factory mount off, held the plate up to the factory bracket (using the 3 mounting holes as guides), drilled 1/4" holes in the plate, then i took a piece of 1/4" rubber and drilled 3 holes in it as well, to match the plate holes. put the bolts through the plate and the rubber "spacer" and re mounted the plate onto the fender.
"Efficient" and effective!
next is the horn..... got to free them JUGS!!
thanks again for every one that has contributed to this lengthy thread!!

I was getting tired of my foam handlebar grips due to the crack in the foam on one, where my fingertips would sit. I priced out grips and they start at $57 and go up. Got an idea looking at some leather grips...I had some soft thin leather I got on Fleabay, cut it into squares the circumference and width of the foam. Made holes down two sides with a hole punch and hammer, cut strips of lacing from the piece and laced them on myself for nothing. I may wet them down and let them shrink a bit too. Plush as can be.
I wanted to mount a cig lighter in an inconspicuous spot both for quickly plugging in my Battery Tender and for whatever else I wanted to use it for. So I bought a lighter socket at the auto parts store. I already had the rubber expansion insert from a boat project that I used to secure the mount in the upper left corner into an existing frame hole. I cut the mount out of about .120" plate.
Next I mounted it, but discovered the seat bumper needed some clearance, so I made a cut-out for it.
looks good! great place to hide it. i only have one suggestion maybe........ for a hidden look, peel the white decal off the front, then it will be even more hidden ;-)
that's just an idea. but if you want to leave it, that's why these are our bikes, personal preference.
