Was out riding today and finally figured out why my cruise control shuts off when I hit a jarring bump. Most of you probably already know this but I didn’t…when CC is engaged and hitting a jarring bump, it was shutting off, (as if I had pressed the cancel function). Thought I was in for a dealer visit but it was due to me inadvertently “backthrottling” the throttle grip which cancels CC, just like pulling in the clutch or engaging the brakes. When throttle is in “hands off/no throttle” position you can roll it back like 1/8” - which cancels CC…
Speaking of riding today, finally snapped a few photos. First photo is outside the Hitching Post, an old Western Saloon style steak house going back to (IIRC) the 1920’s and an excellent place in the middle of nowhere (Casmalia CA). Definitely worth a visit if your going to be anywhere near Santa Maria (CA central coast). Other pics are near the old Provo Marshall’s guest quarters/golf course - now closed down on Vandenbergh SFB.

I believe HD has incorporated this feature since they went to throttle-by-wire around 2009.
Someone else posted a lengthier thread a few months ago about their CC canceling on bumps. It wasn't because of the throttle rollback but his suspension wasn't adjusted properly and causing the rear wheel to lift slightly. This immediate acceleration of the rear wheel causes the CC to cancel.

Yes it is covered in your owner's manual. It is a good read.
Thanks guys for the comments, been in and out of OM, but hadn't yet come across that. Pretty clever engineering on HD’s part (IMO)😎. Please don’t shoot the messenger, but going to be 72 degrees here today, time for another ride!
You'd be surprised what else rolling the throttle does.
1. Cruise control cancellation - quick roll forward
2. Enable/disable engine idle temperature management system (EITMS) - long hold forward
3. Activate cooling fans - long hold rearward (wide open throttle) w/ engine off, ignition on

Amazing, thank you sir for the information, much appreciated!

on my 2000 Streaming Eagle Rd. glide with throttle cables there was a switch in one of the cables that also canceled cruise control when rolling off.
