I just replaced the Crankshaft Sensor on my bike because I had no spark to the engine. Before doing so my engine always cranked when pushing the starter button. Now it doesn't crank or intermittently cranks. Could this possibly a failure of the ECM ? Thanks
I replaced the coil and ohmed it out everything checked out good. Got 12 volts going the coil. The Bike ran great with no electrical problems until I bought a Lithium battery for my bike. Before that the bike sat in storage for 1 year. Is it possible that the Lithium Battery is causing all my problems ??? I am going to replace the Lithium Battery with a AGM Battery. I truly believe this will solve all my problems. What do you think about this??? Thanks Again!!
Have you put the battery on a charger? Lithium needs to be woke up. Turn head lights on for 10 minutes.
I would put jump pack on, before going out and getting another battery.
Cpk outputs ac voltage. Not the worse updating 20 year old part
Thanks for the response! I will try this. Not going to buy another battery, The Lithium Battery is holding 13.4 volts. I am going to replace the starter relay also. I will keep you informed on my progress.
The CPS on a 2002 Harley is a 2 wire one. It a small permanent magnet with a coil of fine wire around it. As the toothed crank shaft turns, it affects the magnetic waves generating a AC voltage so piston position and RPM is know.
On a 04 FI, if it cranks over 5 seconds without a signal to the ECM, it will set a code. Your bike I assume has a carburetor has a ignition module that get the signal.
It will throw a code but you must read the blinking light to see it I think. A 11 or 41.
Thank you for your response. Yes my bike is carbureted with 2 wire crankshaft position sensor. My '02 Wide Glide does not have self Diagnosing Codes. I hate it!

You can get some codes through dash. And you can go through data port and counting flashes for additional codes. It is tricky.
Do you have a check engine light? I believe if it comes on a second time you have a code
If it doesn't turn over, you do not know anything about spark
Your bike has an ignition module not ecm. It does not control starting only spark.
I am not against throwing parts at this because it is old and I think that is your skill level. But getting a manual meter and reading up might help you. If you take time. To be blunt it is beyond some people to work on bike.
Make a post, year, if carb, mileage, symptoms now, what you replaced, symptoms when you started.list everything in one post. Simple easy to read.
Make it simple to read. No stories
Not turning over could be kill switch, battery, starter relay, a bad wire.

He has limited codes. There is a connector under seat that needs jumped.
It's not going to diagnos cranking.
His crank issue is battery related in this order .....battery, two big wires, bar start switch, kill switch, small wire to starter, starter solenoid, starter...
Warming up a lithium in my mind is recycling time and get a AGM battery.
