2022 FLTRK Fuel Gauge
Fuel gauge does not move for at least 10 miles, including the electronic miles to empty on the dash. At about 15 miles it goes to 3/4, but not to full as is should. I had a similar occurrence last year again when not shutting the bike off to fill up.
Anyone know if this is a deliberate feature from MoCo to "encourage" us to turn bike off at fill up? I mean a float is a float, when it goes up the gauge should reflect that. Is there a way to reset it on the fly?
Please do NOT respond with the merits of turning off the bike for a fill up, not the question.
PS my trucks will immediately show the fuel level increase when filling them up running.

Yes, this is an intentional software parameter by the Motor Company (MoCo). It is not a mechanical failure of your float, but rather a deliberate logic built into the ECM (Engine Control Module). [
Why MoCo Programmed It This Way
- Damping and Anti-Slosh Logic: If the fuel gauge responded immediately to the float on the fly, your fuel needle and "miles to empty" counter would wildly bounce up and down every time you accelerated, braked, or leaned into a turn. [1]
- The Software Rule: To prevent this sloshing issue, the ECM locks the fuel level reading while the engine is running or the ignition is left on. The software heavily dampens the signal, allowing the gauge to change only at a very slow, pre-programmed rate over several miles of steady riding. [

- The Trigger: The ECM requires a complete Ignition Power Cycle (ON-OFF-ON) to register that a refueling event occurred and instantly recalculate the new fuel capacity. [

How to Reset It "On the Fly"
If you accidentally fill up with the bike running, you do not have to wait 15 miles for it to catch up. You can force the ECM to reset immediately by pulling over safely and performing a power cycle:
- Pull Over Safely: Find a safe spot to completely stop the motorcycle.
- Kill the Engine: Turn the handlebar Run/Stop switch to OFF.
- Cycle the Master Ignition Switch: Flip your main ignition switch completely OFF, wait 5 to 10 seconds for the electronics and instrument cluster to go completely dark, and then turn it back ON.
- Let the Gauges Sweep: Allow the system to completely boot up and let the fuel pump finish priming before you crank the starter. [1,
