I have not posted on here for sometime, just have not had anything to share. I am looking for a new seat for the 98 ultra. I tried a mustang seat that the boss lady did not like. Had a harley air zeppelin that I got from a member here that I did not like as it sat me up too high, felt like I was on a dirt bike, was comfortable though. Currently running a factory seat and it is just dreadful. I like the drivers backrest, so I would like to keep that option.
Thought about mean city, but my seat will need recovered and I may be into new seat money to have them fix. Spoke with a few guys locally that have had them do seats and they are starting to wear out/foam is breaking down? Does mean city cover their work after several years, or do you need to pay again to have them rework it?
Looking at the saddlemen road sofa and the mustang super touring deluxe. For context Im 6'1 about 245. I know this is all subjective but your opinions are appreciated.
A Mustang, you'll be wondering if a bee is biting you after an hour. (heat) Remember, soft = heat every time.
That, stock and Corbin are all I've had experience with. The say you need 1000 miles to get settled in on a Corbin. Not true, about 30 minutes and you never think about it again.
I chose a Mustang touring seat for my FXRS and LOVE IT. If youre unable to find a suitable Mustang seat, you would be wise to speak directly with the folks at Mean City Cycles. When my Mustang finally reached the point of needing rebuild or replace, I had them do it. Its held up well and meets my requirements. You can discuss a variety of things about your seat that you like/dont like, make sure they know how big you are, etc. . They do good work, and good work isnt cheap.
I've had dozens of different seats over the years on several different bikes. My absolute favorite was the Mustang Wide Vintage Touring seat. Super comfy and actually looked good too.
Another great seat that has been very comfortable to me was the Harley Sundowner. Its comfortable, stylish, and will allow you to run the HD riders backrest. Plus you can usually find them on eBay or Marketplace for $100-$150 bucks.
Good information gentlemen, thank you. I have the mustang wide touring seat on the 98 softail and love it. The mustang I had for the ultra looked similar, but did not make the cut.
I am getting a Saddlemen road sofa extended reach for my Ultra. I have a Saddlemen on my softball and it is very nice. Had a mustang wide touring on my last softail and had no complaints on that one either. For someone your size (I am 6’4” and 240), I would go sit on an extended reach seat first before you invest in a new seat to see if you like it.
