My father's name is Dawood and wasn't a username that was taken, so it has become mine here. I'm 19 and currently ride a Kawasaki Vulcan S 650. Studying biology, I will be a State Park Ranger with the intent of moving up into district management or further because nature conservation is an interest of mine. Should that not work out, I have other things planned. I've been riding since December of last year and have put around 3,000 miles on my bike so far, though I ride significantly more now that I am comfortable on my bike. I like to ride in all weather conditions and do slow speed practice routinely. I don't like driving my car anymore and only do it occasionally so the battery doesn't die.
I do not own a Harley Davidson motorcycle at this time. However, I intend to purchase one in the following months because I have always liked to support American manufacturing. This idea did not come about without experience though, as I didn't want an HD even though I respected the brand until I test rode a sportster for a friend of mine. Although a little cramped, the sportster 1200 I rode had a lively engine character and sound that made my Vulcan's parallel twin buzz feel like a toy, even if the latter was significantly faster. It was an easy ride too.
Having gone to a dealership, all the newer models feel nice, yet cheap at the same time although I'm sure they don't ride like that. Cheap plastic buttons everywhere that make the bike's bars look like game controllers. Went to the Harley dealership in Ashland semi recently, there's a used yellow super glide custom in there that was real comfortable for me. T bars and it looked pretty too. A beautiful analogue gauge was the striking feature I noticed most. Because of that experience, l want to buy a used Dyna superglide around 4,000 - 6,500 USD when I get the money together by working and customize it to be more performance (in suspension for lean, not engine) oriented later down the road when I am a better rider, though I do not stunt or want to. I liked the Pan America a lot too, but that's past my budget right now and the used models I could technically afford private sale if I made poor financial decisions have problems with the... Fuel pump? I forgot. Either way too problematic and powerful for me right now, it'd be wise to build skills on the dyna and move up to the Pan America later on if I'd like to when the more reliable models become affordable for me.
Ideally, I want a superglide from 2007 and beyond because those models are 6 speed, fuel injected, and do not possess the plastic cam tensioner problem of prior years, so I feel that they are the best value within my price range. Chrome and paint that's not black would be cool too, but I'll take what I get when the time comes.
Joining this forum is a way for me to connect to the broader Harley Davidson riders who are more knowledgeable than I, and I hope that they can guide me to more intelligent decisions regarding these bikes.
I encourage you to ask me questions should you desire to do so.
Thanks,
Dawood

I'll be sure to keep my questions in appropriate threads. Didn't think part availability was a problem regarding twin cam 96 and the dyna platform, I'll ask about that later.
Thank you, you're not far. I'm near RVA.
