I have a 99 Softail Custom, there is oil leaking out of the stator connector. Is there a fix for this without replacing the stator? I have sprayed it with brake cleaner hoping that swells it for now. Obviously this is a common problem.
I had this issue on two softails. My fix was to clean it as much as possible (I used brake cleaner), let it dry out overnight and seal it using high-temp RTV.
This has held up nicely on both occasions.
As already mentioned, I use a pick to pull the flange of the grommet away from the case, and I spray brake cleaner around, and I try to give it a bit of a scrub with an old toothbrush all the way around at the same time.
I usually pick up a pack of those small tipped arts and crafts paint brushes from the dollar store. While using the pick to pull the flange of the grommet away, I brush a little black RTV all the way around.

This was a mistake, the brake cleaner will eat the rubber plug. Ask me how I know.
You've just made your problem worse. You should have just cleaned it and them use the Ultra Black like suggested.
I used the green can of Brakleen (CA Compliant) on my RKC mentioned above and then dried it with a can of keyboard duster. Like I said, 5-6 years ago without the slightest seep. YMMV......
