Default Stator wire leaking

I finally figured out where my oil leak was coming from, the stator wire plug.

I cleaned off the area with brake cleaner, rode for awhile and checked it later, seepage on the case under the plug.

So now the dilemma, put some silicone on there or take it to the dealer and I know they will replace the stator. I do have the ESP so it will only cost the $50 deductible.

So what's the dilemma? Them working on the bike, I usually do my own work. Plus, no issues with the charging/stator otherwise.

Is there a newer version of the stator that would be worth the upgrade?
I think there was an improved rubber plug in previous years.

Bike has 40k with original stator.

Common sense is telling me, get it replaced before it leaves me stranded.

I just went through this. Silicone worked for about 2 months. My bike now has a new stator (and a new compensator).

I have 40k on my '09 with the original stator, used black oil resistant silicone on the plug at about 13k, hasn't leaked since. I do have a new stator and the SE compensator that I plan to install this winter though, mainly because I am going to have the outer primary off any way, so why not. If you have the ESP for $50 bucks let 'em do it. If they screw it up you can always go back in and fix it.

Just had this happen to my bike. ESP covered new stator and new compensator. Get it done and move on. Why do a bandaid fix if you have thE ESP?

That new plug design didn't help much on my '11.

Just had my 2010 StreetGlide with 43k on the clock done. ESP covered a $485 repair for $50 deductible. So much for the redesign LOL!
