Damnation. But not surprised. Could be the metal is just not up to par and !bang!, she gives. Metal probably came from overseas where they like to salvage and mix metals.
Was there any misalignment that you noticed? Did it show the belt had been rubbing on the inner flange at all? Just curious of what to look for or if it's just a bogus setup.
No mis-alignment...no pre-warning. She pulled over almost immediately, so just a few scratches to the wheel. When she took delivery, the original pulley was scratched really bad. She rode it for a week or so while the dealer ordered a new one.
Found out warranty expired 3 months ago. Dealer wants $290. Welcome to the world of HD!

BS, he changed it out and it failed,I don't think that's a coincidence.......
You said it was aligned so I would have no problem riding it to the dealer. The belt never rides there if aligned except if backing up a long ways.(at least I think it rides inward but one way or the other) SuperMax used to make a polly insert for the stock sprocket and maybe would be an option.
The belt comes off when you roll it in reverse.I was over 150 miles from home when mine went and made it home no problem. How thick is your pulley?I think I have a thin late model one that is new. I wouldn't spend 280 on one thats for sure.
there is a pulley off a 2010 that just came up on the Softail classifieds for 60.00 mikkeeh

I agree with the comments above , the dealer should not only replace the pulley,he should apologize and be very thankful that no one was hurt. I would buy one somewhere else and do the install myself. and that dealer would never see another nickel from me.
