Default high pitched whine on decelleration

After I installed my rear wheel I have started getting a loud whine on decelleration. I'm guessing it could be my belt adjustment? My bike has a shotgun shock. When I adjusted the belt it was on a lift so the swing arm was fully extended. I ride with it an inch or so up from slammed. Should I adjust the belt at ride height or does it no matter? What's the correct procedure for belt adjustment? Thanks guys

the first thing I would ck is wheel alignment if you moved the adjusters when removing the wheel. second I would adjust the belt tension with the bike on the ground and set at ride height. but if I was gonna bet it would be on the belt tension being to tight .good luck.

Your service manual explains it in detail.

sorry jameson, I started typing before I got to your actual question. as the good doc points out the procedure is in the manual. Harley sells what they call a belt deflection tool that you can get at the dealer. a lot of old timers say if you can take the belt between your thumb and fore finger and twist it at a 45degree angle then your good.

Thanks guys. My belt was pretty loose. Just tightened it up and checked my alignment. All good and the whining is gone.

It is also normal to get that with 'lowered' bikes.. I have a detailed thread on that from last year
