SoftGlide ? New Bat Wing
Just installed a new bat wing fairing on my bike. For 2 years I have been fumbling around with ear buds and thinking about buying a fairing so I could have some tunes and some extra wind protection.
I checked out fairings at the B B & BBQ rally last year and this year and spent a lot of time looking at the different makers online and decided on one. I decided on Reckless because I have seen them in person and thought they looked like a quality product and they were more in line with what I wanted to spend.
I upgraded the receiver to the Infinity Bluetooth Marine Grade receiver, added a Rockford Fosgate 300 watt amp and 4 Polk Audio speakers. To my ear it sounds great. With the amp it puts out a clean and clear sound at a high volume to be able to hear the tunes while traveling highway speeds.
I had Reckless paint the fairing front and back Midnight Pearl to match my bike. Even though my bike is 2 tone I looked at many pics of painted fairings and knew the white on the "nose" of the fairing was not for me so I opted all MP. I am glad with my decision as I think the solid colored fairing balances out the saddlebag black on the rear of my bike. The paint job is flawless, looks like I am looking into a Midnight Pearl mirror.
As for cutting down on wind and buffeting I think it is a big improvement over the shield. I had the 21" Nostalgic shield which was great but the fairing is a definite improvement. The front end does feel a little less nimble with the extra weight of the fairing but it is nothing I will not get used too.
Why a fairing on a Deluxe and why I did not just get a Street Glide? I just love the ride of this bike, it is the most comfortable bike I have owned and I made it mine. I like the Street Glide but every other bike I see is one. Mine is unique to me.

Looks good, I just find the bat wing fairings sit too high. Would it be possible to modify the headlight mounting and fairing mounting to bring them down lower to the fender? Obviously almost everything is possible but is it feasible, by whats involved and cost.
Looks real good set up with the fairing and you're right, the solid black fairing does compliment and balance the black bags.
You might consider some white pin striping to tie it all together.
how does it mount?

Thanks for the comps.
I put a couple hundred miles on her this morning and in my opinion if you ride out on the open road a lot i think it is worth the investment. It is a big improvement of blocking the wind over a shield. I still get wind but no buffeting of my helmet at all.
I am running a 8" shield which I can see over with proper position. I can see clearly over it but I slouch when comfortably riding and I look through the shield. I don't mind looking through. I like the added protection a tall shield gives.
The batwing does affect handling differently than a shield, definitely feel the added weight. I did get a very slight wobbling effect passing a Semi but nothing I worried about.
As for the tunes, I used ear buds exclusively before and they sound much better than a mix of wind and stereo but I got tired of messing with the buds and cord while riding. Fairing stereo is convenient.
I will probably get some pin striping done that matches the bike. As for being a quick release. If about 10 minutes is quick enough for a big fairing to be taken off I guess it is. I have to loosen the mounting bracket bolts, take the lenses off the passing lights, loosen and turn at a 45% angle then lift off. Then reassemble. I left my shield on all of the time and it will not be any different with the fairing.
The only thing that disappoints with the Reckless fairing to me is the mounting brackets. They are not finished to a high quality standard. They should be chromed or a polished steel like the Harley ones. They come a dull grayish silver color. When everything else one the bike shines they kind of stick out. That is something I will have to remedy over the winter.
I am very happy with my purchase and would recommend one if you are on the fence on getting one. There are several high quality vendors in this field so look at them all and choose the one you can work with. Reckless has done good by me.
