been thinking and asking about this for a bit. I have got to have some saddlebags for this bike. I would prefer some that detach, but that is not a deal breaker. Pictures and/or suggetions are greatly appreciated.
I'd go with EasyBrackets, then You can mount any bag to the bracket, quick key release...the Saddlemen Bags are rigid enough to just bolt to the bracket...don't spend big $ for rigid mount bags...
If you have passenger backrest get something like a T-bag. Most Softail saddlebag don't hold enough for the prices and the T-bag (or equal) will hold tons when you need it and come off for clean cruising when you don't. IMO
The ones show in my pic were on the bike when I bought it. The MSRP is about $1000 Cdn! I'd have never bought them myself, but am sure glad the original owner had big pockets! While they aren't the biggest (suggested load of 7 lbs per bag...), it just keeps me riding with the essentials, instead of everything but the kitchen sink AND they lock. Doesn't makethem theft proof of course, but certainly more of a challenge for a light fingered individual, than a pair of leather bags, with simple straps & buckles. I guess it depends on your budget though. As I said, I don't think I'd have sprung for them, if they hadn't come with the bike.
Well I got the matching bags for the 07 Fatboy..I love the way they look. Downsides..they arent quick release and no locks. I never park my bike where I cant see it anyway and honestly its rare I go anywhere and dont need the space..also nice to keep the jacket in there if I'm burning up. You can fit tons of stuff in em as well. You can see what they look like on your bike using the customizer on the Harley site. They werent cheap but all in all if I had to do it over again I would purchase em..however if you were to ever change out your seat they would no longer match...hmm lol.
I went with the LeatherPro's on my 05 Fatboy and really like them, on or off in less than a minute, come with locks, can order them with extra long straps which are great to hold your jacket down to the top of the bag, and are a real quality product. They are a little pricey, but well worth it in my opinion.
Mine detach but are the HD ones with the HD detachable bags.. they don't lock, besides they are leather with rigid support inside. I am sure I could goto a leather shop and get a little patch of leather and a strap in the middle to get a lock on em....
If I knew Easy Brackets for sure(which I don't) could also have a mount for a detachable sissy bar then I'd of gone with them and then a non HD bag.. Which would of been a lot less expensive and a lot more customizable....
